This evidence-based review concludes:
In patients without a pre-existing diagnosis of GI bleeding, "Not enough data have accumulated to prove the superiority of intravenous proton pump inhibitors to intravenous histamine-2-receptor antagonists for prophylaxis of clinically important stress ulcer bleeding."
